We've had a couple of days of cool weather and even a bit of a drizzle. It's not enough to affect the fire in any serious way or even replenish our mostly depleted water supply, but it gives us time to prepare for the next round when it runs again; possibly Friday.
The recent interloper was a red-belly and seems to have moved on. The copperhead that was there originally appears to still be stuck or at least taking a long holiday embedded in the corrugations of the chook shed wall. It did moult recently - I've found the old skin. As long as it isn't threatening anybody I'm fine with letting it fend for itself. I have no desire to kill it and that's illegal anyway, but I likewise don't have a lot of motivation to spend money to extract and relocate it.
